Pavilion and grove

Pavilion, picnic grove and courts

The covered pavilion, the big deck, charcoal grills under the trees, and the courts and games between swims.

A 1967 pavilion, a big deck and a grove of grills

The covered pavilion went up in 1967, paid for with membership funds, and it still anchors the hill beside the pools. It holds the pavilion TV, which is programmed for sports channels and operated only by club management.

Next to it is the large deck, set with picnic tables and umbrellas, and below it the picnic grove: tables spread under the trees and charcoal grills around the edge. The grills are newer than the pavilion, installed in 1987. The Baby Pool sits beside the pavilion and grove, so a parent at a picnic table can watch the youngest swimmers without leaving the shade.

At 3:00 pm the ice cream is sold in the pavilion, and the profits support the swim team. Correct change or small bills are always appreciated.

Where food goes, and the rules that keep the grove tidy

No food, gum or glass is allowed in the pool areas. Food and drinks other than water belong in the picnic grove, and plastic water bottles are the one exception around the pools. Alcohol is permitted in the picnic area, and glass of any kind is not permitted anywhere at the facility.

Grills are the members' responsibility. Any open flame must be supervised by an adult. Wedgewood is member owned and member operated, so everyone helps keep the grove clean: pick up the trash around your table, even when it is not yours.

Special club social events can change the food rules for an evening. Otherwise the rule is simple: containers and food stay in the grove, and members are responsible for picking up all trash and litter they cause.

Courts, games and parties from Memorial Day to Labor Day

Between swims there is plenty to do on dry ground: a full basketball court with a volleyball net that goes up between the poles, wiffle ball, wall ball, a gaga ball pit, four square, a shuffleboard court, and two horseshoe pits.

A gathering of more than six non-member guests counts as a party. A member over 18 asks the club manager for approval. Parties run Monday to Saturday, never on Sundays, holidays or scheduled events, and the manager decides each date. The cost is $10 per party guest, current members not counted, with a limit of 25 people.

Before the season, email wedgewoodbod@gmail.com at least 2 days ahead with the date and the number of adults and children expected. The host is responsible for setting up, cleaning up and supervising guest children. The club provides no supplies, no reserved seating and no pavilion reservation, and the party ends 30 minutes before closing.
